The contest welcomes international entrants
There are 2 categories: Intermediate and Advanced - Advanced category welcomes both learners and native/fluent speakers
There is no fee for the first entry. Additional entries are $10 CAD each, a maximum of 3 entries per person (see payment button below) 

Important Dates:
  • The contest opens at our annual Oidhche nam Bàrd evening, January 20, 2023
  • We will be hosting a *poetry writing class with Gillebrìde MacMillan on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 9-11 a.m. EST
  • The contest closes on World Poetry Day, March 21, 2023
  • Winners will be announced in our newsletter and on social media on April 1, 2023 - April is Canada's National Poetry Month
*The poetry writing class is free for CGT members and $10 for non-members. Registration is mandatory for all. Register here.
(Note, you do not need to enter the contest to participate in the class. Likewise, participation in the class does not require you to enter the contest.)

If you have a story, a song, or an instrument you play, we invite you to contribute - skill level is not the important thing at a Cèilidh, so simply join and tell, sing or play! Most of all, we invite you to contribute with your presence and join us!

It will encompass all things St. Nick, so be sure to wear your red and greens and prepare your Gaelic Carols, songs, stories and poems!

"Catherine-Ann MacPhee is a Scottish Gaelic singer from Barra in the Hebrides, now resident in Canada. She has worked in the theatre and broadcasting as well as giving musical performances in Scotland, England, Canada, and elsewhere. After a period living in Ottawa, she moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2017."

  The Gaelic Society of Toronto would like to announce the winner from the fall class.

We proudly present The Gaelic Society of Toronto Matthew Chisholm Memorial Award to the Senior level Gaelic student who has gained the greatest fluency in the Gaelic language: Seonnaidh - John Tohill

MATTHEW CHISHOLM was a member of The Gaelic Society of Toronto and served as a Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors in the year 2017/18. He studied Gaelic to the degree that he was totally fluent and also sang Gaelic songs beautifully. Sadly, Matthew passed away too young at the age of forty. In his honour, The Gaelic Society of Toronto is proud to recognise the student who, in the opinion of the instructor, has gained the greatest fluency in our advanced level Gaelic class by presenting them with a Certificate of Achievement and free tuition for one subsequent course.

​Fèis Chomunn Gàidhlig Thoronto! October 15-16

We are hosting a Fèis weekend (traditional Gaelic arts and culture festival) October 15-16. Due to the pandemic, the Fèis will be online again this year. The event will start off with the Annual General Meeting on Friday the 15th, followed immediately by a traditional Friday Night Ceilidh. The ceilidh will be hosted by Gaelic Singer, Robyn Carrigan, and David Livingston-Lowe will present a Gaelic Whisky toast. The AGM and Ceilidh are free to attend, as always. Bring your tunes, stories, poetry but most of all, bring yourself!

Saturday morning will kick off from Scotland with Gaelic Consultant, Àdhamh Ó Broin, presenting a workshop on Gàilig Latharn - the Gaelic dialect of SW Caithness. SpeakGaelic hosts, Calum MacLean and Joy Dunlop, will then take the virtual stage to share all the exciting details about the recent launch of this new program for learning Gaelic. After lunch, former Gaelic Council of Nova Scotia President, David Rankin, will host a presentation on Gaelic History in Canada, and Gìllebrìde MacIllemhaoil / Gillebride MacMillan will finish off the afternoon with 'Tha òran annad', a contemporary original Gaelic song lecture and workshop.

Saturday evening, there will be a free virtual screening of Pelicula Films and BBC ALBA’s film, As an Eilean, to close out the weekend.
