Cànan agus Òran - Gaelic Language and Song Workshop

3/1/2020

The Gaelic Society of Toronto will be holding a day of Gaelic language and song for learners of Scottish Gaelic on April 4, 2020.

The guest teachers for this date are as follows:
  • Chrissie Drake - a native speaker from Lewis and Harris, Scotland
  • Lorrie MacKinnon - long-time Cànan agus Òran organizer
  • David Livingston-Lowe - David is a member of the staff in the University of Toronto Celtic Studies Program and an experienced Gaelic educator in many Celtic languages.

The Cànan agus Òran day will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Carr Hall, 100 St. Joseph Street (Saint Michael’s College, University of Toronto), Toronto, Ontario.  The day will include of language classes and a song workshop.  Classes will be offered at the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.  Should there be enough interest, a Beginner II (between beginner and intermediate) session will also be offered.

The cost for each day is $45 (+ processing fees), free to U of T students, $25 to non-U of T students (+ processing fees) and free to native speakers.

Early Bird Registration- 20% off discount – Registrations (including cheque or money order) received two weeks in advance (March 21, 2020) pay $36, non-U of T students $20 (+ processing fees).

We have had the venue free of charge for many years. That benefit is no longer available to us.  The registration fee has been increased by a small amount after many years with no increase.  Rather than raise the fee by a higher amount, we ask those who are able to make a donation in addition to the registration to offset the new and not insignificant venue charges, with our thanks.

Please plan to join us afterwards for a social/ceilidh at a location to be determined.
For more information, call Lorrie at (905) 844-4908

Registration and payment via credit card/PayPal is available here:
